It’s that time of the year again…

Black Friday is in two days, which marks the start of the holiday shopping season. The holidays is all about sharing time, food and gifts with friends and family and things can get pretty chaotic. Among the chaos, is a reminder to be vigilant of mistakes, scams, and fraud. The hackers do not rest during the holidays, and it is important to be careful. Here are some top tips for the holiday shopping season:

  1. Visit reputable retailers, whether in-person or online. They are less likely to be fraudulent.

  2. If there is a deal that is too good to be true, then it probably is.

  3. Be vigilant of the promotional emails you receive, and the links in those emails. Whenever possible, type in the retailer’s legitimate website in a browser, rather than blindly clicking on a link.

  4. Double check credit card statements for incorrect, unknown or fraudulent charges.

  5. Double check the products you buy to make sure you get the actual product

  6. If buying secondhand, meet in a public area with plenty of people, and inspect the product thoroughly
